I was poking around the house, early in the morning with my coffee. I walked back to my room and noticed the light trickling in through the cracks in the blinds. I knew this warm light would leave the north soon, so I took its photo.

If I Were a Gangster

Life of a lonely girl
From a young child, my happiest moments have always been spent daydreaming with my dog.
My favorite frames are my legs . I’m setting up the remote shot from the phone and I’m testing the exposure for the next photo of myself with the smoke.

Fireweed Field on the West Side
I had a ton of anxious energy today so I went to the fireweed field near my house after work. I love this time of year, when the fireweed loses its petals, the pink becomes muted and a white cotton replaces the flowers. It makes for a dreamy, kind of fuzzy look.
I’m doing minimal photoshopping. I first learned about photography in a dark room and I intend to keep the artificial away from my work. The most I’m doing to these photos are adding contrast, and barely adjusting exposure time.

Through a Glass Darkly
It’s been quite some time since I’ve contributed to this blog and website. For the last couple of years I’ve taken time away from providing portrait services to Fairbanks families as I’ve found myself working as a full time Public Information Officer for my beloved Fairbanks North Star Borough.
Every day I am tasked with pointing out the accomplishments of others and it’s something I believe I am good at, and it’s something, which fulfills a deep sense of purpose during my time visiting earth. For many years I balanced my personal needs as photographer, with those of clients, but at some point in the last decade of life, I stopped doing that.
So now, I find myself with a desire to reinvigorate my photography as a PERSONAL art form, and this blog will be where I share my unique perspective on life, our environment and the beautiful souls I meet along the way.

This photo was captured in a little village in the Andean mountains of Bolivia. To this day I do not know the name of the village. The mountain is a reflection of the sunset behind me. I call it “Through a Glass Darkly”, a biblical reference expressing that our understanding of life and existence, particularly those regarding spiritual or divine matters, are limited. We only see a small fraction of what is “real”,

Though we share this humble path, alone.
How fragile is the heart.
Oh give these clay feet wings to fly.
To touch the face of the stars.
Breathe life into this feeble heart.
Lift this mortal veil of fear.
Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears.
We'll rise above these earthly cares.

Alaska-Los Angeles-Panama
This adventure with my husband was a most memorable experience for the both of us. It took two days, three planes, 6 hours of driving, and two hours on a water taxi to reach the incredible Bastimentos Island. The Bocas del Toro region of Panama is beautiful, and I can’t wait to go back someday!
